GroWell at WEK: Nurturing Happy, Confident Children through a Transformative Wellbeing Curriculum

June 2025

At WEK, we believe that a child’s education should go far beyond academics. Our vision is to help every child grow not only intellectually but also emotionally and socially. That’s why we are proud to embed The Happy Confident Company’s award-winning, transformative personal development and mental wellness programme into our GroWell curriculum—a core part of our whole-school approach to wellbeing and personal growth.

From Foundation Stage all the way through to Year 6, GroWell lessons support children in developing essential life skills that underpin happiness, confidence, and mental resilience. Rooted in neuroscience and emotional intelligence, the programme is carefully designed to equip students with the tools they need to thrive in an ever-changing world.

Each weekly GroWell lesson focuses on a different aspect of wellbeing—whether it’s self-belief, compassion, resilience, or empathy. These lessons help our children build a deep and nuanced understanding of over 100 emotions, enabling them to express how they feel with confidence and clarity. By developing the art of emotional regulation, students learn how to manage their inner world with kindness, balance and calm.

This comprehensive curriculum weaves together key strands of social and emotional learning, character education and life skills. It empowers our students to reflect on their own wellbeing and how they relate to others. By focusing on self-awareness and self-expression, children learn not only to better understand themselves, but also to show greater compassion and acceptance toward others.

But our commitment doesn’t stop in the classroom. Using the Upstrive app and daily emotional check-ins, we encourage children to build positive daily habits, including gratitude, reflection, and self-kindness. These small but powerful routines help students start each day with purpose and calm, reinforcing the messages taught in their GroWell lessons.

Our goal is to ensure that every child at WEK develops a strong emotional foundation. By the time they enter adolescence, we want our students to carry with them optimism, resilience, and a secure sense of self-worth. They will be better prepared to face life’s challenges, treat others with kindness, and understand the value of compassion because when children are happy and confident, they don’t just succeed in school—they thrive in life.
